Welcome to Slidis. These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Slidis mobile application (“App”) and our website slidis.ie (collectively, the “Service”).
Please read these Terms carefully before using the Service. By accessing, downloading, or using the Service (including submitting your email to our pre-launch waitlist), you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not access or use the Service.
1. What Slidis Is and Is Not
1.1 What Slidis Is
Slidis is a community-driven, educational tool designed to assist drivers in practicing driving test routes in Ireland.
1.2 What Slidis Is Not
To the maximum extent permitted by Irish law, you acknowledge and agree that Slidis is:
- NOT an official service, website, or system of the Road Safety Authority (RSA) or any government body.
- NOT affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with the RSA.
- NOT a guarantee, warranty, or assurance that you will pass your driving test.
- NOT a substitute or replacement for professional driving instruction or the mandatory Essential Driver Training (EDT) lessons.
- NOT professional legal or driving advice.
2. Limitation of Liability
Please read this section carefully as it limits our liability under Irish law.
2.1 No Exclusion for Death or Personal Injury
Nothing in these Terms shall exclude or limit our liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
- Any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the Consumer Rights Act 2022 or other applicable laws of Ireland.
2.2 Limitation of Damages
Subject to Section 2.1, and to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Slidis, its co-founders, developers, and contributors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:
- Loss of data, profits, reputation, or opportunity;
- Any property damage, vehicle damage, or road traffic collisions arising during your practice sessions;
- Fines, penalty points, or prosecutions initiated by An Garda Síochána related to your driving activity or device usage;
- Your reliance on any inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated route or speed limit data displayed in the App.
3. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Slidis, its co-founders, and contributors from and against any and all claims, damages, liabilities, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in connection with:
- Your use or misuse of the Service;
- Your breach of these Terms;
- Your violation of the Irish Road Traffic Acts or any other road safety regulations.
4. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms, their subject matter, and their formation are governed by Irish law.
Both you and Slidis agree that the courts of Ireland shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any disputes or claims arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the use of the Service.
5. User Eligibility & Licensing
By using the Service, you represent and warrant that:
- You are at least 17 years of age (the minimum legal age to drive a passenger car in Ireland).
- You hold a valid Irish Learner Permit or a valid driving licence recognized under Irish law.
- You will comply at all times with the requirements of your licence/permit type.
6. Road Safety and Legal Compliance
Road safety is your sole responsibility. You must prioritize physical road safety and legal compliance over any information displayed inside the App.
6.1 Compliance with Irish Road Traffic Acts
You must comply with all provisions of the Irish Road Traffic Acts 1961 to 2024 and any other applicable regulations.
If you hold a Learner Permit, you must be accompanied at all times while driving by a qualified sponsor driver (who has held a full, clean driving licence for at least two years) in accordance with Irish law.
Your vehicle must display “L” plates (or “N” plates if applicable) in a conspicuous position.
Slidis does not authorize you to drive unsupervised or in violation of your permit conditions.
6.2 In-Car Device Usage
Do not interact with the App while driving.
- You must set up your route, adjust settings, and launch your session before starting your vehicle’s engine or moving.
- Your mobile device must be securely mounted in a suitable, high-glare-resistant dashboard or windshield mount that does not obstruct your view of the road.
- Any interaction with a handheld mobile device while driving is a strict offence under Irish law and is strictly prohibited by these Terms.
7. Community Data & Route Accuracy
The driving test routes, checkpoints, and road instructions provided within the App are compiled from community-submitted data.
- No Warranties: We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, currency, or validity of any route data.
- Dynamic Road Conditions: Test centres frequently alter official routes, road layouts change, and temporary roadworks or traffic management rules may apply.
- Driver Discretion: You must always apply your own independent judgment, follow physical road signs, obey Garda instructions, and adapt to live traffic conditions. Physical road signs and road markings always override any instruction or map layout shown inside Slidis.
8. Location Tracking & Privacy
To map, track, and provide feedback on your practiced driving routes, the App requires access to your device’s GPS location services (via expo-location).
Your location tracking is subject to your explicit consent, which you may grant or revoke at any time via your device settings or App preferences.
Our collection, processing, and anonymization of your location data are governed by our Privacy Policy, which is fully compliant with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Irish Data Protection Acts. Please review our Privacy Policy to understand how we protect your personal data. To permanently delete your account and erase all associated driving data, visit our dedicated Account Deletion page.
9. Intellectual Property & Community Submissions
9.1 Slidis IP
The Slidis name, trademarks, logos, interface, software, vector map styles, and proprietary algorithms are the exclusive property of Slidis and its creators.
9.2 License for Community-Submitted Data
By submitting, uploading, or verifying any route, GPS trace, checkpoint, or comments to the Slidis platform, you:
- Represent that you own the rights to the submitted data and that it does not violate any third-party rights.
- Grant Slidis a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable, perpetual, and irrevocable licence to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, display, distribute, and commercially exploit the submitted route data within the Slidis platform and its related services.
- Acknowledge that because this is community-driven data, you cannot withdraw this license once the route has been integrated and published, as doing so would break the functionality for other users.
10. Availability and Service Disclaimer
- “As Is” Basis: The Service is provided to you on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory.
- Pre-Launch Status: You acknowledge that Slidis is currently in a pre-launch/testing phase. System disruptions, data losses, and software bugs may occur. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or terminate access to the Service at any time without liability.
11. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms.
- Notice of Material Changes: If we make material changes that affect your rights or obligations, we will notify you at least 14 days in advance via email (if you are on the waitlist or registered) or through a prominent notice inside the App.
- Non-Material Changes: Minor updates (such as fixing typos or formatting) will become effective immediately upon posting.
- Acceptance: Continued use of the Service after the 14-day notice period constitutes your binding acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the new Terms, you must stop using the Service.
